These terms are the agreement between you and iByte Apps Limited ("we", "us"), a company in Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, for your use of the Sandy B app on iPhone, iPad and Android. By downloading or using Sandy B you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Our privacy policy explains how the app handles information. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Who can use Sandy B
You must be 18 or over to use Sandy B and to buy a subscription or the lifetime purchase.
What Sandy B is
Sandy B brings together recordings of talks by Sandy B., a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, including the Saturday Morning Live step talks. It also includes A.A. literature, prayers, readings and other texts to read.
- The recordings have been shared freely within the fellowship for many years. They and the literature belong to their owners. A subscription pays for the app, the hosting of the tapes and continued development. It isn't a sale of the recordings or the literature.
- Sandy B is an independent app. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc., the A.A. Grapevine, Sandy B. or his family. "A.A." and "Alcoholics Anonymous" are registered trademarks of A.A. World Services, Inc.
- Sandy B is not medical advice and isn't a substitute for professional help, treatment or A.A. meetings. If you're in danger or need urgent help, call 999 in the UK, or your local emergency number.
Free use and adverts
You can use Sandy B for free, with adverts. Some tapes are always free, and the readings are free.
Other tapes can be opened free of charge by watching a short advert. A tape opened this way stays open until midnight, by your phone's clock. If no advert is available, the tape stays locked; you can try again later or subscribe.
Subscriptions and free trials
A subscription opens every tape, removes all adverts and lets you download tapes to listen offline. The plans on offer, their prices and any free trial are shown in the app before you buy. They come from Apple or Google, and may differ by country.
- Payment. Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) takes payment from your store account when you confirm the purchase. You buy through them, on their terms.
- Free trials. If a plan shows a free trial, you won't be charged until the trial ends. To avoid being charged, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. The store decides who can have a trial; normally each account can have one only once.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Your store account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Yearly, paid monthly. Where Apple offers it, the yearly plan can be paid in 12 monthly instalments. This is a 12-month commitment: cancelling stops it renewing for another year, but the remaining monthly payments for the current year are still due, and the app stays open until that year ends. Apple shows the monthly price, the total and the number of payments before you confirm.
- Cancelling. You can cancel or change your subscription at any time in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it. When you cancel, the subscription keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Price changes. If the price changes, Apple or Google will tell you beforehand, following their rules, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
- Refunds. Because Apple or Google take the payment, they handle refund requests under their policies: reportaproblem.apple.com for Apple, or your Google Play order history for Google. This doesn't affect your rights under consumer law.
- Restoring. On a new phone, use Restore purchase with the same Apple ID or Google account to bring your subscription back.
Lifetime purchase
Instead of a subscription, you can open Sandy B for good with a single payment. It gives everything a subscription gives: every tape, no adverts and offline downloads. The price is shown in the app before you buy.
- One payment. Apple or Google takes it from your store account when you confirm. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel.
- What "lifetime" means. For as long as we offer Sandy B on that store, on any phone signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account. It belongs to that account and can't be moved to another account or to the other store.
- If you already subscribe. Buying the lifetime purchase doesn't cancel your subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings so you aren't charged again.
- Refunds and restoring work as they do for subscriptions, above. If the store refunds the purchase, the tapes lock again.
Purchases from the original Sandy B app
If you bought an in-app purchase in the original Sandy B app on the App Store, it keeps all its benefits in this version. Use Restore purchase with the same Apple ID.
Downloads and the recordings
- Downloaded tapes are for your own personal listening, in the app. Please don't copy, share, upload, broadcast or sell them, or the app's other content.
- Downloads are for supporters, with a subscription or the lifetime purchase. If your subscription ends, downloaded tapes that aren't free are locked again until you subscribe or unlock them.
- We may add, change or remove tapes and texts. We'll try to keep everything available, but we can't promise every recording will always be there.
Using the app fairly
Please don't:
- try to get around the locks, the subscriptions or the adverts;
- copy, change, take apart or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows;
- overload, disrupt or try to get unauthorised access to the app or our server;
- use Sandy B for anything unlawful.
The app's design, code, artwork and name belong to iByte Apps Limited. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Sandy B on devices you own or control, under these terms and the rules of the store you got it from.
If something goes wrong
- We'll provide Sandy B with reasonable care and skill, and as described in the app and on the store page. If it isn't, contact us and we'll try to put it right. You may also have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
- The app depends on your phone, your internet connection and services run by Apple and Google, so we can't promise it will always be available or free of faults.
- We're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control.
- If the app damages your device or other digital content because we didn't use reasonable care and skill, we'll either repair the damage or pay you compensation.
- Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Sandy B in the 12 months before the problem.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
Ending these terms
You can stop using Sandy B at any time by deleting it; remember to cancel any subscription in your store account settings too. We may suspend or end your use of Sandy B if you break these terms. We may also stop offering the app; if we do, we'll give you reasonable notice where we can. A subscription or lifetime purchase you've paid for is then handled under the store's refund policy and your consumer rights.
Apple App Store
If you got Sandy B from Apple's App Store, these terms are between you and iByte Apps Limited, not Apple. In addition:
- Your licence is to use the app on Apple-branded products you own or control, as allowed by the App Store's Usage Rules.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for the app, its content, maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it.
- If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid for the app, if any. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claims about the app or your use of it. That includes product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- If anyone claims the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging the claim.
- You confirm that you're not in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you're not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must also follow the terms of any third-party service you use with the app, such as your mobile network.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple can enforce them against you.
Google Play
If you got Sandy B from Google Play, Google Play's terms of service and policies also apply to your download and purchases.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We'll change the date at the top of this page, and if a change matters we'll tell you in the app. If you don't agree with a change, you can stop using Sandy B and cancel your subscription.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
